And a slew of stars were quick to make the annual holiday a photo op as they took to Instagram to wish their followers well while baking pies, preparing their carb-heavy feasts and showing off their autumnal décor.

But unlike millions of Americans, Tom will be busy with football practice for most of Thanksgiving and will only be able to spend a few hours with his family.
'Thanksgiving, there's a lot to be thankful for, but you only get four hours to enjoy it,' he said. 'Practice usually ends at about 1 or 2. You eat about 3:30, then you're getting ready for next day of practice. Same with Christmas.'

This year's 95th annual parade will feature 15 giant character balloons, 28 floats, 36 novelty and heritage inflatables, more than 800 clowns, 10 marching bands and nine performance groups and the ever-popular Santa Claus.
Parade rehearsals for performances were underway on Tuesday. NYC residents and tourists watched the pre-parade balloon inflation from noon to 6pm.
The parade is set to broadcast Thursday morning on NBC from 9am to 12pm with hosts Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb and Al Roker.
'For our 95th celebration, Macy's has created a spectacle to remember featuring a dazzling array of high-flying balloons, animated floats and incredible performers,' Will Coss, the executive producer of the parade, said in a statement.
